Program Report 1999

Five hundred million fewer cigarettes per year. Thirty five thousand fewer Oregon smokers. One hundred fifty million dollars and 600 lives per year in future Oregon savings. If this were a novel, you should be upset, because it seems that we've just told you the end. But this isn't a novel and this isn't the end. Instead, it's just the beginning of Oregon's new Tobacco Prevention and Education Program. These early outcomes of our statewide program reflect the skill, dedication and passion of thousands of Oregonians across the state. They represent the results of a prevention-focused, public-private partnership in the best Oregon tradition. Interested in knowing more of the story? How we got here and what we need to do to maintain success? If so, consider taking the time to read the next couple of pages.

We'll start a little over two years ago with Measure 44.
