Report finds one-fifth of Oregon toddlers are watching too much television
Reading to children and play activities are associated with less viewing time Reading to children and play activities associated with less viewing time
Almost 20 percent of Oregon 2-year-olds watch two or more hours of television in a typical day, according to an Oregon report published in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children 2 years of age and older watch no more than one to two hours of quality programming per day.

"Reducing viewing times for toddlers might also help decrease the media use among school-aged children, which now averages 7.5 hours of total media use daily. " said John Oh, M.D., M.P.H., CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service officer assigned to Oregon Public Health.

Portland State Office Building Closures
Furlough Day building closures
The current recession has reduced state revenues, and has forced the Legislature to make deep cuts in agency budgets. Coping with these cuts requires closing many state offices and facilities, including the Portland state office building. State workers affected by the closures will take unpaid furloughs on those days. We apologize for any inconvenience these closures might cause, and we look forward to restoration of a full work schedule for all state agencies when the economy improves.

Most agencies and programs will be closed on ten specific days during the biennium.
