Student Child Care Program
Student families may be eligible for financial help to pay for child care costs. The Student Child Care Program gives Oregon a limited amount of funds to help students pay for child care. Students must meet low income guidelines and based on their income, will pay a portion of their child care costs. In order to be eligible, parents must meet the following criteria:
- be caretaker for children under 12 years of age (exceptions for older children under special conditions),
- be an undergraduate who has been formally admitted to a 4 or 2-year college eligible for federal student aid, and registered for or attending at least 12 credit hours, and maintain passing grades.
- meet low income eligibility guidelines,
- if receiving cash assistance (TANF) through DHS, the student must choose between the cash assistance and the Student Child Care Program (consult with a DHS caseworker to help decide which program would be to the student's best advantage). Students receiving medical benefits or food stamps may also be eligible for this program, and
- have a child care need (in a two-parent household, the second parent is considered available to provide child care unless he or she is (a) employed, (b) also a student and meeting the eligibility requirements stated above, or (c) deemed unable to care for the child).
To apply for this program, student parents must be on the DHS Student Child Care Program waiting list. Students must fill out a waiting list information form and submit it online to the Student Child Care Program.

The order of persons on the waiting list is determined by the date of the returned and completed waiting list information form. Students will be notified when a slot becomes available and sent an application which must be returned to DHS with requested verification of income, full-time student status and financial aid award letters within 15 days of the date on the waiting list information form.
